Everyone’s heard the phrase “bringing home the bacon”, assuming it has something to do with money. It actually refers to bacon and being a good husband.
In 12th century England a church in town of Dunmow promised a side of bacon to any married man who could swear before God that he had not quarreled with his wife for a year and a day. A husband who could bring home the bacon was obviously considered a great catch, showing self control and patience.
So forget about chocolates or flowers, historically the ladies’ love a man who can bring home the bacon!
